Major Responsibilities of the Committee
1. Development Planning and Project Formulation
Development Planning: Preparing plans for the overall development of the Grama Panchayat.
Socio-Economic Planning: Formulating programs aimed at social and economic growth.
Spatial Planning: Planning based on the geographical characteristics and requirements of the area.
The committee plays a major role in preparing the Panchayat Annual Plans and presenting them before the Grama Sabha for approval.
2. Major Development Sectors

The committee supervises activities related to important development sectors of the Panchayat, including:

Agriculture: Agricultural production, seed distribution, fertilizers, irrigation, and related activities.
Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development: Implementation of livestock and dairy development programs.
Soil Conservation: Projects for maintaining soil fertility and conservation.
Social Forestry: Tree plantation drives and environmental awareness programs.
Minor Irrigation: Implementation of small-scale irrigation projects.
Fisheries: Development of the fisheries sector.
Small-Scale Industries: Promotion of local industries and entrepreneurship.
Public Works: Construction and maintenance of Panchayat roads, buildings, and other infrastructure projects.
Housing: Supervision and implementation of housing schemes.
3. Energy and Infrastructure
Rural electrification and promotion of non-conventional energy sources.
Installation and maintenance of street lights and implementation of energy conservation projects.
4. Project Implementation and Monitoring
Ensuring that all projects under the committee are completed efficiently and within the stipulated time.
Reviewing the progress of projects and making necessary corrections or improvements when required.
Coordinating activities based on the recommendations of Working Groups and Grama Sabhas.

In short, the Development Standing Committee is responsible for setting the direction of the Panchayat’s development, planning projects, and ensuring their effective implementation for the welfare and progress of the community.
